OCEANSIDE, Calif. — The North County Transit District will increase the frequency of Coaster commuter train service between San Diego and Oceanside in October after the agency’s board approved increased weekday and weekend service.
Changes will include four additional round trips Monday through Thursday; 16 round trips on Fridays (a change from the current 13 during the summer and 11 during the winter), and 10 round trips on weekends — an increase from four to six on Saturdays (depending on the season) and four on Sundays.
Schedules will also be adjusted to address existing gaps in service. The new schedule will be released in September. The increased service will be funded through a transit sales tax administered by the San Diego Assocation of Governments, or SANDAG.
“This increase in service for our transit partners is a great example of what we can do today to make transit a more convenient option,” SANDAG Chair and Encinitas Mayor Catherine Blakespear said in a press release. “The goal of SANDAG’s draft 2021 Regional Plan, the blueprint for the future of transportation, is to create a faster, fairer, and cleaner transportation system for every person in the region now and in the future.”
