OTTAWA, Ontario — O-Train Confederation Line light rail service is expected to begin running on a limited basis as of Friday, the CBC reports, with full service restored by the end of the month.

Service will begin with seven trainsets, with an additional set train as a spare, with the number of active trains gradually increasing over the month.

Test operations began Nov. 4, and if they continue to go well through Wednesday, with confirmation by independent reviewer Transportation Resource Associations, city manager Steve Kanellakos said in a memo that he would then make the return official.

The line has been shut down since a Sept. 19 derailment subsequently blamed on improperly tightened bolts.

The planned return comes despite a minor collision Monday between two trainsets in a maintenance yard. The CBC reports the accident occurred while one train was towing another, and resulted in damage to windshields, wipers, and exteriors of both cars, as well as the coupler of one trainset. No injuries were reported. The accident was reported to the Transportation Safety Board of Canada, which assessed the situation but is expected to take no further action.
