CALGARY — Canadian Pacific’s Keith Creel has been named 2021 CEO of the Year by Canadian newspaper The Globe and Mail’s Report of Business Magazine.
A profile in the magazine focuses on the 53-year-old Creel’s skill as a strategist in efforts to merge CP with Kansas City Southern. The magazine recognized other CEOs for leadership, innovation, vision, and responsibility, in addition to naming an overall CEO of the year.
Creel was named the railroad’s president and CEO since Jan. 31, 2017, after being appointed president and chief operating officer in 2013 and joining the board of directors in 2015.
“It is my honor to accept this award on behalf of the entire CP family of railroaders,” Creel said in a press release. “Leading the dedicated people who make this iconic company run safely and efficiently is one of the great privileges of my life. Tremendous work has been done by many to generate a once-in-a-lifetime partnership with Kansas City Southern.”
Creel began his railroad career at Burlington Northern in 1992 and also worked at Grand Trunk Western before holding a number of positions at Canadian National, reaching the post of executive vice-president and chief operating officer before moving to CP. He served in the U.S. Army as an officer during the Persian Gulf War.
