NAPTON, Mo. — About 40 cars of a Union Pacific manifest train derailed Sunday at the grade crossing with County Road E in Napton, the railroad reports. The accident occurred about 4 a.m.; the train crew was not injured.
The cars involved carried a mix of commodities, with at least one carrying wheat. UP crews are on site and working to remove the damaged cars and repair the track. The cause is under investigation.
KMMO Radio reports officials hope to have the damage cleaned up by 5 p.m. today (Monday, Dec. 20).
Napton, on UP’s River Subdivision, is about 80 miles east of Kansas City, Mo.
