ALDERSHOT, Ontario — So spotless you can imagine the smell of fresh paint, a half-dozen freshly rebuilt Wabtec AC44C6M locomotives bound for the Quebec North Shore & Labrador pass through Aldershot, Ont., today (Dec. 21, 2021) on Canadian National train No. 422 today. The units, rebuilt from BNSF C44-9s, will operate on the remote 257-mile common-carrier railroad operating between Sept-Iles, Quebec — some 375 miles northeast of Quebec City — and Labrador City and Emeril Junction, Labrador. The railroad is owned by the Iron Ore Co. of Canada.

Do new engines Start at Zero Miles Now for the new railroad up in Canada??

So I am curious if the covers over the horns and radiators are to protect against snow or ore falling out of the loadout?
Sharp looking paint scheme.
Interesting how all the other Class 1 Railroads are rebuilding their older engines while BNSF returns their Dash 9s back to the leaser. I guess the rebuilds didn’t work to well for BNSF.
BNSF has a very pervasive attitude toward locomotives: they have a working life of X years and that’s it. They do not believe rebuilding to be worth the cost. That’s one piece of ATSF culture that did not survive the merger.
Anyone know what their former numbers were?
that’s funny i didn’t know that burlington northern santa fe was selling their Dash 9’s to different owners
They have had a number of them going on lease return over the last year or so, these may fit that mold.
KCS picked up 70 former BNSF Dash-9s this year.
