wartime_gondola
HELP MOVE THE HEAVIES: Atlas O’s 52½-foot war emergency gondolas are in stores now. The cars were a wartime workaround for a shortage of cars able to carry long and heavy materials. Wood was substituted for steel wherever possible, and these were rated at a 70-ton capacity. The gondolas have scale dimensions and die-cast-metal trucks and couplers, and require O-42 or wider-diameter track. The O gauge car is available undecorated as well as in Grand Trunk Western (shown), Indiana Harbor Belt, Norfolk & Western, Pennsylvania RR, and Santa Fe liveries for $56.95 each. See your Atlas O retailer or go to www.atlasO.com for more information.

WANDER DOWN TO WALLY’S: Train Town can now have a full-service gas station with a rotating sign from Menards. The no. 279-4431 Wally’s gas station has six gas pumps with illuminated globes, two oilcan stands, two air hose stands, a few tires, trashcans, a soda machine, three uniformed employees, and, of course, our four-legged friend, Jack the German Shepherd. Front and rear signage on the O gauge structure is impressive, as is the rotating Shell sign in the circular art deco oval roof illuminated from below. A power adapter is sold separately. The structure costs $89.99 plus shipping, or opt for free shipping to your local Menards store. For more information, or to purchase, go to www.Menards.com/Trains.
