NEWINGTON, Conn. — Connecticut will add additional CTrail trains on the Hartford line as of today (Monday, Jan. 24) to offset the loss of service resulting from Amtrak cuts, while other Amtrak trains will be replaced by bus service, the state Department of Transportation announced.
Amtrak announced cuts to its Springfield Shuttle and other service as part of COVID-19 related service cuts that began Jan. 17 [see “Analysis: a closer look at the impact of Amtrak’s cancellations,” Trains News Wire, Jan. 17, 2022].
Changes announced by the state include a new Sunday-only CTrail train departing Springfield at 3:55 p.m.; a weekday train departing New Haven at 8:55 a.m.; and bus substitutes for one weekday and one Sunday train in each direction. Schedules for the bus substitutes will be posted at the Hartford Line website.
Other Amtrak trains will see schedule revisions, as will two New Haven-bound CTRail trains. Full details are available in this press release.
