MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. — The landmark but long-closed South Shore Line station on 11th Street in downtown Michigan City has been torn down, a casualty of the ongoing project to double-track the line between Gary, Ind., and Michigan City. That project will also see the end of the current street running in Michigan City.
The station building, dating to 1927, had been closed since 1987, with passengers using a bus-type shelter at the location. Use of that station ended in May 2021 in preparation for the double-track project. A new two-track station with high-level platforms will eventually open at the site; plans call for it to reuse the terra cotta façade from the original building.
I just want to know if they are going to let Harolds Chicken Shack lease space in the new terminal?
A picture of the old station would have been appreciated.
