WASHINGTON, D.C. — Some $138 million in funding is now available for transit agencies in Washington state, the first money coming from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, U.S. Sens. Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray announced, saying the state will receive $1.79 billion over the next five years.
“These funds are critical to helping meet the ridership demands of our workforce, reduce the congestion returning as we rebound from the pandemic, and transition to zero-emission bus fleets,” Cantwell said in a press release.
“What this means for people in Washington is more jobs, less pollution and congestion, shorter commutes, and more equitable communities,” Murray said.
The money announced last week comes from the Further Extending Government Funding Act, which provides partial-year spending authority through February 18, 2022.
Who goes into work anymore? Seattle area was already well established as a remote work center long before covid. Very densely populated metro area with highly patronized public transit.
That money will really help the people of Washington get to work when they can’t afford gas or cars. Brilliant!
