ATLANTA — Norfolk Southern made three promotions in executive positions on Thursday, naming Michael McClellan as senior vice president and chief strategy officer, Nabanita Nag as senior vice president and chief legal officer, and Clay Moore as vice president and controller.
“Norfolk Southern is fortunate to have a talented, deep, and experienced executive team leading the way as we move forward with our business strategy,” NS president Alan Shaw said in a press release. “These appointments make us a stronger company,.”
McClellan, a career railroader, spent 10 years at Conrail before joining Norfolk Southern in 1998. NS describes him as one of the most respected leaders in the rail industry. He has been a key figure in the development of the RailPulse coalition to develop real-time freight car tracking and telematics.
“Mike is known for his strategic insights, vision, and comprehensive knowledge of the North American rail network, with a long list of accomplishments,” said Chief Financial Officer Mark George. “He was one of the architects of the development of our intermodal network into the most powerful in the East, a significant strategic advantage. He is leading the advancement of innovative public-private partnerships such as our recent agreement with the Virginia Passenger Rail Authority. His appointment is effective Feb. 16.
Nag joined NS in August 2020 as general counsel, corporate. Her position includes reporting to the Security and Exchange Commission, corporate finance, governance, shareholder relations, and oversight of cybersecurity and data privacy. She will succeed Lorri Kleine, retiring on March 1.
Moore came to NS in 2011 as manager of accounting research, advancing through several positions to his current role as assistant vice president of corporate accounting. He succeeds Clyde (Jake) Allison, retiring on March 1.
Charles, you are correct.
Believe this is Jim McClellan’s son. Great railroader, fine man.
