FILLMORE, Calif. – Former Fillmore & Western Alco S6 1059, a heavyweight passenger car, and a detrucked Pacific Fruit Express wood-sheathed refrigerator car left Fillmore on Tuesday by low-boy trucks for their new home at the Virginia & Truckee Railroad in Virginia City, Nevada. The diesel, former Southern Pacific No. 1059, was numbered 1229 in that road’s 1965 renumbering before being sold to the F&W. The unit is in operable condition and has been seen in a number of television commercials filmed on the line.

The Fillmore & Western, which operated over Ventura County Transportation Commission-owned right-of-way in Ventura County, was replaced by Sierra Northern’s Ventura Division late last year.

  1. I spent many hours running this locomotive, and it will pull! I hope it does well in its new home in Nevada.
