A General Electric AC4400CW diesel locomotive joins the rapidly growing Genesis 2.0 product line from Athearn Trains. The HO scale six-axle road unit is scheduled for release in April 2023.

Road names in the first release will include The CIT Group (blue and white), Chicago & North Western (green and yellow with Operation Lifesaver logo), CSX (yellow, blue, and gray), Kansas City Southern (Southern Belle), Southern Pacific (scarlet and gray with speed lettering), and Union Pacific (Primed for Grime Southern Pacific patchout, two road numbers). The units will be offered in three numbers per scheme unless noted.

The AC440CW will include prototype-specific details; three truck versions (Hi-Adhesion with early inside strut or late outside strut configuration and GE steerable); light-emitting diode headlights, number boxes, ground lights (above front truck), and marker lights (as applicable); etched-metal see-through walkway steps; rotating roller-bearing caps; a detailed cab interior; Celcon handrails; wire grab irons; windshield wipers; a brass airhorn; rubber m.u. and trainline hoses; sander lines; fillers, gauges, and breather pipes on the fuel tank; and McHenry scale couplers. The model will be fitted with a five-pole skew-wound motor, machined flywheels, and a multi-link drivetrain. The road unit will have all-wheel drive and electrical pickup, RP-25 contour wheels, and a heavy die-cast metal frame.

Direct-current models with a 21-pin NEM connector will be priced at $264.99. Versions with a dual-mode SoundTraxx Tsunami2 sound decoder and dual cube speakers will sell for $364.99. Add $10 for Primed for Grime engines.

: Athearn’s Primed for Grime models have factory-faded paint and/or patches, serving as a starting point for additional weathering. This Union Pacific (ex-Southern Pacific) AC4400CW is offered in two road numbers, each with road-number-specific patches and UP herald placement.
