HO and N scale locomotives: Broadway Limited Imports (BLI) recently announced five newly tooled locomotives in N and HO scales. The models are scheduled for release between August and December 2022. All of the locomotives will feature a dual-mode Paragon4 sound decoder.
The first model due out is Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe 4-6-4 steam locomotive no. 3460. The HO scale Brass-Hybrid model will be offered in its as-delivered (with and without road number on the side of the tender), early 1939, early 1941, 1950, and 1951-1953 schemes. A painted brass version will also be offered.
Features on the Blue Goose, scheduled for release in August/September 2022, will include a brass boiler, cab, and tender body; a die-cast metal chassis; and separate, factory-applied details including handrails, grab irons, ladders, piping, and air tanks, among other items. The model has a minimum recommended radius of 18” and will include rubber traction tires. The price has yet to be announced for the Blue Goose.
September will see two diesel locomotive releases. An Alco RSD-15 will be joining the N scale product lineup. Road names will include Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe (zebra stripes and pinstripe schemes); Bessemer & Lake Erie (orange and black); Duluth, Missabe & Iron Range (high short hood, maroon with broad gold stripe); Lake Superior & Ishpeming (red and yellow); Penn Central (high short hood, black and white); Pennsylvania RR (high short hood, as-delivered scheme); Southern Pacific (scarlet and gray); and St. Louis-Southwestern (Cotton Belt, scarlet and gray). In addition, BLI will be offering an RSD-7 decorated for Chesapeake & Ohio (high short hood, blue and yellow) and an RSD-17 lettered for Canadian Pacific (high short hood, maroon and gray in one road number). Each paint scheme is available in two numbers unless noted.
Features on the six-axle road unit, which will be priced at $299.99, will include an ABS body, die-cast metal chassis, all-wheel electrical pickup, and prototypical light operation. The minimum operating radius for the RSD-15 is 9 inches.
The second September release will have some flair: an HO scale Electro-Motive Division SD45. Paint schemes will include Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe (blue-and-yellow warbonnet); Burlington Northern (Cascade Green and black); Electro-Motive Division demonstrator (blue and white, one road number); Norfolk & Western (high short hood, black and white); Pennsylvania RR (Brunswick Green); Southern Ry. (high short hood, “tuxedo” scheme); Southern Pacific (scarlet and gray); and Union Pacific (Armour Yellow and Harbor Mist Gray). Each paint scheme will be offered in two numbers unless noted. An undecorated model with a low short hood will also be offered.
The SD45 will have many prototype-specific details, including two short hood options, three each truck sideframe and cab sunshade styles, and four each front and rear pilot versions. The model, which will be priced at $399.99, will have numerous individually controllable lights, including front and rear headlights, number box lights, front and rear class lights, rotary beacon (if equipped), and cab light.
In November, an HO scale EMD GP35 will be arriving in stores. Paint schemes will include Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe (GP35u, blue-and-yellow warbonnet); BNSF Ry. (GP39-3, Heritage III); Chicago, Burlington & Quincy (Chinese Red and gray); Chesapeake & Ohio (blue and yellow); CP Rail (Action Red with Multimark herald and 5” stripes); New York Central (black and white); Pennsylvania RR (red keystone scheme); Southern Ry. (high short hood, “tuxedo” scheme); Southern Pacific (scarlet and gray); and Union Pacific (Armour Yellow and Harbor Mist Gray with “Dependable Transportation” slogan). Each paint scheme will be offered in two road numbers. An undecorated model will also be available.
The GP35 will feature road-name-specific details, including truck sideframes, air horn, pilots, and uncoupling levers. The four-axle road locomotive will have an ABS body, die-cast metal chassis, and all-wheel electrical pickup. The model will be priced at $399.99.
The final newly tooled model, scheduled for release in December, is the Electro-Motive Division GP30. Road names will include Atchison, Topeka & Santa (GP30u, blue-and-yellow warbonnet); BNSF Ry. (GP39-2R, Heritage III); Baltimore & Ohio (no. 6914 in as-delivered scheme and no. 6944 as it appears today); Chessie System with Chesapeake & Ohio reporting marks (blue, vermillion, and red); CSX (GP30m; yellow, blue, and gray); Denver & Rio Grande Western (black and orange with small Flying Grande lettering); Norfolk & Western (as-delivered scheme); Pennsylvania RR (red keystone scheme); Seaboard Air Line (Pullman Green, yellow, and orange); Southern Ry. (high short hood, “tuxedo” scheme); and Union Pacific (no. 844 as it appears today and with shield on cab). Each paint scheme will be offered in two numbers unless noted. An undecorated model will also be offered.
The GP30 will have railroad-specific details, individually controllable lights, an ABS body, and a die-cast metal chassis. The model will sell for $399.99.
