PITTSBURGH — Wabtec Corp.’s philanthropic arm, the Wabtec Foundation, is donating $100,000 to Ukrainian refugee relief, the company announced Tuesday.
The donation will be split between the International Rescue Committee, which works in more than 40 countries and 20 U.S. cities to help those devastated by conflict and disaster, and World Central Kitchen, which is helping civilian refugees escaping from the war in Ukraine.
“In times like this, it’s important for the world to come together to support those most impacted by this conflict,” Wabtec CEO Rafael Santana said in a press release. “By supporting the International Rescue Committee and World Central Kitchen, we hope Ukrainian civilians find comfort and relief in this time of need. Our thoughts are with the people of Ukraine, our employees in the region, and their friends and families.”
The United Nations estimates more than 1.5 million people have fled the fighting in Ukraine. Rail companies throughout Europe are working to help transport the displaced [see “Railways help rescue millions …,” Trains News Wire, March 6, 2022].
Good for Wabtec.
