Broadway Limited Imports will be adding a Reading Co. class T1 4-8-4 to its N scale steam locomotive lineup. The model is scheduled for release in December.

Road names on the 4-8-4 will include Reading Co. (in-service and Iron Horse Rambles excursion, three road numbers each); 1976 American Freedom Train no. 1; Chessie Steam Special; Delaware & Hudson Sesquicentennial Locomotive (with smoke deflectors); and Reading, Blue Mountain & Northern. In addition, fictional Christmas and Independence Day paint schemes will be offered. Each paint scheme will be offered in one number unless noted.

The Reading Co. class T1 locomotive will feature a die-cast metal body and chassis; a light-emitting-diode (LED) headlight; wire grab irons and boiler handrails; traction tires on one driver; crosshead and valve gear detail; air tank, air pump, and piping details; a turned brass bell; a cast brass generator; and cab window glazing. The smooth-side, all-welded Reading Co. tender will feature a die-cast metal body shell and chassis, an LED backup light, a wire tender deck handrail, and Commonwealth-style trucks with roller-bearing journal details. The Chessie Steam Special and Delaware & Hudson models will have details specific to those paint schemes.

Features on all T1 models will include Micro-Trains compatible front and rear couplers, a dual-mode Paragon4 sound decoder, and a built-in capacitor pack.

The N scale 4-8-4 will operate on codes 55, 70, and 80 rail. The T1 has a minimum operating radius of 9.75”.

The Broadway Limited Imports N scale Reading Co. class T1 4-8-4 steam locomotive will sell for $499.99. To keep up to date on this project, visit broadway-limited.com

When the United States of America was celebrating its bicentennial in 1976, two steam locomotives were in charge of pulling the American Freedom Train. Reading Co. no. 2101 was renumbered 1 and put in charge of hauling the train through the eastern half of the country. Broadway Limited will be offering the model in the patriotic red, white, and blue scheme.

The full-size 2102 has been a part of the Reading, Blue Mountain & Northern locomotive fleet since 1985. Broadway Limited offers the excursion hauler in one road number.

  1. It’s nice to see a new steam locomotive in N scale. Now, if you would consider offering an SP AC9 2-8-8-4 steam locomotive, that would be fantastic. No AC9 has ever been offered, in any scale, that hasn’t been brass. You would make a lot of SP fans happy, and anyone who collects steam locomotives. Since BLI has offered quite a few one-off steam locomotives only used on one railroad…example PRR I would think an AC9 would be possible Thanks You
