COHUTTA, Ga. — The small town of Cohutta, just southeast of Chattanooga, Tenn., is seeking $2 million in funding to develop railroad-themed park to attract tourism.

The Daily Citizen of Dalton, Ga., reports the town has applied for grant from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs to turn a 5-acre lot adjacent to a Norfolk Southern line that would include a railroad viewing platform as well as a 3,000- to 4,000-square-foot building for a model railroad. The town has partnered with the Cohutta Modern Scale Railway Society on the project.

Cohutta has a population of 765, according to the 2020 census. If the community receives the grant, it will have to put up a 10% local funding match. It should learn if its application is successful by the end of July.
