American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association logoWASHINGTON — The American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association has recognized a record number of railroads with its annual Jake Safety Awards, announced last week.

A total of 364 railroads received awards for performing at or above the industry average for Federal Railroad Administration-reportable injuries, including 332 honored “with distinction” for having no reportable injuries in 2021.

Twenty railroads received the President’s Award, for recording the lowest reportable injury frequency rate per Federal Railroad Administration regulations as measured within person-hour categories. A list of the President’s Award winners is available here; those honored with distinction are listed here; and other Jake Award winners are here.

“The railroad industry is safe, and getting safer,” ASLRRA President Chuck Baker said. “Our short line members are doing their part to continue to drive those statistics in the right direction, placing safety above all competing priorities.”
