SANTA FE, N.M. — The New Mexico Rail Runner Express commuter-train service has extended a fare discount that began in April, as well as announcing a forthcoming service expansion.
The Albuquerque Journal reports that Gov. Michelle Luhan Grisham announced Wednesday that the 75% fare reduction — which lowered tickets to $2.50 for a day pass and $27.50 for a monthly pass — will continue through the end of the year. It had been scheduled to end July 31.
At the same time, Rio Metro Regional Transit District, the Rail Runner’s parent agency, announced it will add two additional round trips to the weekday and Saturday schedule. New schedules are available here.
“We commend the Governor for her actions to extend affordability for commuters and travelers, as gas prices across the country remain high,” Dewey V. Cave, executive director of the transit district, said in a press release. “Additionally, we believe the new train schedule with added service will accommodate the changing workday that many commuters are now experiencing, and also offer more options for shorter trips – which is something people have been wanting for years.”
