  1. We have people in high places that were hired for style over substance. The never ending government subsidy, can never make the trains run on time. Or as my dear departed grandpa used to say: We can send men to the moon, but can’t make the trains run on time. You are still right grandpa!

  2. Greetings from Olympia Washington. The family reunion here hosts people from all over America – all of whom drove or flew.

Three days ago after arriving at SeaTac Airport I drove under the tragic rail bridge over Southbound I-5 between Tacoma and Olympia. What a terror, but I says to myself at least the corridor has train service, most places don’t.

Then I reconsidered. (1) I got from Wisconsin to Washington by air, although a train to Seattle passes a couple of miles from my home. (2) Airports I went through are mega-crowded and busy even in places where there are trains, like Denver which has one train but a billion airplanes. (3) Washington’s rail corridor hasn’t stopped the massive rebuilding of I-5 under way between SeaTac Airport and Tacoma.

I’m sorry, people. Our battle has been half-a$$edly fought and crushingly lost. Amtrak will never be more than a side show other than NEC, the Hiawatha and a handful of other routes.

    1. come on you must know that UP will run one trip with the 4014 and that is just what mary jane high Denver deserves as far as pathetic Amtrak is concerned

    2. Wel Howard, I thought that Charles was saying that Amtrack had a train that went to Denver. I was asking which one. I wasn’t expecting a snarky answer from someone. Excuesz- moi!!!

    3. Talk about Mary Jane high. Massive crash on I-5 south of SeaTac Airport. Sat in traffic forever while local authorities did nothing to move traffic around the crash zone. I asked my Warshington State family why local police didn’t do anything to direct traffic around the crash site. Answer: Warshington State drivers loaded off Mary Jane.

Anyway back home in Wisconsin after three days in Warshington State. SeaTac and Demver airports hoping crazy. Until this weekend I thought DTW Detroit was a big deal, pales in comparison to DEN Denveror even SEA SeaTac.

    4. I greeted you from Olympia Washington. Amtrak 7 passes thru my home area near Milwaukee to get to Seattle.

But I flew, UAL changing at Denver for SeaTac.

  3. Oh great! Another session of “we aren’t doing anything wrong” and “its someone’s else’s fault”. [I still can’t believe our current Secretary of Transportation never had any real experience in transportation other than bike paths & deciding on one-way streets and yet he was confirmed.]

  4. Might be entertaining.
If nothing else, Pete is good at word salads, keeping the transcriptionists on their toes.

    1. The world’s most well-presented, intelligent looking, nicely trimmed out imbecile.

He had me fooled. Thought he’d make a pretty decent SecDOT. Not.

    2. Oh Charles! As soon as I read the headline I knew you would be one of the first, if not THE first to post. I hope to tune in. Now we’ll see if the emperor, er SecTrans, has any clothes. I would like to ask him two things. 1) Who is minding the Amtrak store? Is there any oversight of how Mr. Gardner&Co are spending to plan to spend the $66b? 2) The section of the IIJA that appropriates highway $$$ to the states was supposed to be for SOGR projects only. How is it you and your FHWA administrator dear Stephanie [Pollack], fresh off MassDOT, failed to insert a clawback feature to prevent what IL Gov. Pritzger is doing, namely using the $$$ instead to widen interstate highway segments? Yeah, Steph is another brilliant pick by “Amtrak” Joe. Not.

    3. “Are spending or planning to spend” was what I meant. Get it together kid. You’ve got a long day ahead at Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum.
