WASHINGTON – The Livonia, Avon & Lakeville Railroad family is growing.
Next month the New York state railroad will acquire a controlling interest in neighboring short line Ontario Midland Railroad, it said in a July 13 filing with the Surface Transportation Board.
Ontario Midland operates 47 miles of trackage east of Rochester, N.Y., and connects with CSX Transportation at Newark, N.Y. The Livonia, Avon & Lakeville Railroad Corp. will acquire 55% of the OMID in a deal expected to close on Aug. 13.
It will join three other railroads currently operating under LAL control, including the 65-mile Livonia, Avon, & Lakeville, which operates south of Rochester; B&H Rail Corp., whose trackage runs northwest out of the Corning, N.Y., area; and the Western New York & Pennsylvania, which operates between Hornell, N.Y., and Meadville, Pa., as well as a portion of the former Conrail Buffalo Line from Machias Junction, N.Y., to Driftwood, Pa.
LAL’s railroads are known for their black-and-gold fleet of Alco and Montreal Locomotive Works locomotives.
What about the Ontario Central, connecting with the Finger Lakes Railroad?
A 30 second Google search shows that Ontario Central has been owned by Finger Lakes since 2007.
