YAZOO CITY, Miss. — Two rail-related projects are among three Mississippi awards under the RAISE (Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity) grant program announced by U.S. Sens. Roger Wicker and Cindy Hyde-Smith. In all, three projects in the state will receive a total of $15.4 million in funding.
Yazoo City will receive $12.6 million for its Main Street Revitalization project, which will include construction of a train station, development of a stormwater park, and improvements including bike lanes, broadband, and stormwater management.
Yazoo City, served by Amtrak’s City of New Orleans, currently has a platform and shelter with no amenities.
Also, Tupelo will receive $1.45 million for engineering and planning of a grade-separation project building a highway overpass over Kansas City Southern’s main line at Eason Boulevard; relocating switching work away from the intersection of Main and Gloster streets; and developing quiet zones and new safety features.
A third project, for extension of a trail from New Albany to Ripley, Miss., will receive $1.4 million.
