Name: Mark Lovelace
Railroad Name: SDGRS San Diego County Fair 2018
Location: Del Mar, California
Scale: 1:24
Theme: How Sweet it Is
Description: This is a cab ride on the largest line of a 6-line railroad the San Diego Garden Railroad Society built for the 2018 San Diego County Fair. The video of the train going around the loop twice was shot on a maintenance day when the fair was closed. The automated trains ran 12 hours a day, 5 days a week for a little over a month and the layout took us 16 days to build. The fair’s theme was “How Sweet It Is” which is why the rolling stock and buildings are all sugar or candy related. The display won the Coordinator’s Award for Exceptional Landscape Exhibit, first place Garden Show Theme Award and the Most Likely to Appeal to the Imagination and Interest of Children award. It was a wonderful opportunity to showcase garden railroading to the general public and as a result we signed up many new members. We’re already in the planning stages for the fair next year.
