Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority logoTRENTON, N.J. — No injuries were reported but service was affected for two commuter operators after a Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority train derailed late Wednesday morning as the train left the Trenton Transportation Center.

The derailment of the second and third cars of a four-car, Philadelphia-bound train, with 25 people aboard, occurred about 11 a.m. NJ.com reports NJ Transit Northeast Corridor trains to Trenton were also affected, with delays of up to an hour.

SEPTA service was suspended between Philadelphia and Trenton while the train was rerailed and removed, with disruptions continuing into the afternoon and evening with the cancellation of five trains. Service issues are continuing this morning (Thursday, Sept. 29), with five trains cancelled in each direction and delays of up to 10 minutes for others, the agency said on Twitter.

SEPTA and Northeast Corridor owner Amtrak will be investigating the cause of the derailment.

  1. 4 car train. Could it be that the train was not detected in the limits of its tracks and next switch alignment was activated?
