ORLANDO, Fla. — Commuter rail service SunRail will resume full operation to all 16 of its stations this Monday, Oct. 17, following repairs to its route to address flooding in the Kissimmee, Fla., area caused by Hurricane Ian.
The approach of the hurricane and its immediate aftermath shut down SunRail from Sept. 27 to Oct. 2. When service resumed Oct. 3, the three southernmost stations on the route — Tupperware, Kissimmee, and Poinciana — were served by a bus bridge because of damage on the rail line. Service to Tupperware was restored Oct. 6, but bus service continued to the other stations.
The CSX route through the area, shared by SunRail and Amtrak, was repaired in time for Amtrak to restore its service to South Florida this weekend [see “Amtrak’s Silver Meteor returns …,” Trains News Wire, Oct. 14, 2022].
