Name:    Dave Condon
Railroad Name:    Northern Pacific, RS-1 Engine #803
Location:    Kirkland, WA
Scale:    O Scale
Theme:    North Idaho Division
Description:    This is an example of a refurbished Atlas 0 RS-1. Basically the engine was non-functional. It stalled on Atlas O 0-54 switches. It barely had a speed control and the sound board was generic. Two additional center rollers were added to correct the stalling issue. An ELECTRIC RAILROAD speed control package was added giving the throttle 100 speed steps. An ELECTRIC RAILROAD sound package was added giving a good ALCO RS-1 prototype sound. The engine operates BEST in CAB-1 mode. Was it expensive? YES. ….. but not even half the price of a new engine and considering there is little to nothing in the way of NP engines, it was a bargain. (Anyway, that’s what I told my wife!) ENJOY!

  1. Yes, it has electro couplers both front and back. It is a great switch engine because it doesn't stall on switches. The new rollers were MTH. If you should retro fit one of these engine it's possible the MTH roller will short on some Atlas O 054 switches. The resolve is to screw a 1:48 railroad tie at the frog which lifts the roller in the switch and prevents a short. The Lionel Legacy GP9 has the same issue on Atlas O 084 switches with the same fix.
