WASHINGTON — U.S. rail traffic was down for the week ending Nov. 12, according to statistics from the Association of American Railroads.
The total of 490,350 carloads and intermodal units represented a 2.5% decrease from the corresponding week in 2021, with the 235,474 carloads representing a 0.2% drop while the 254,876 containers and trailers were a 4.5% decrease.
Year-to-date figures, through 45 weeks of 2022, show overall traffic down 2.5%, with carloads up 0.2% and intermodal traffic down 4.7%.
North American figures for the week, for 12 reporting U.S., Canadian, and Mexican railroads, show 334,731 carloads, down 0.7%; 335,949 intermodal units, down 4.9%, and total volume of 670,680 carloads and intermodal units, down 2.8%. The year-to-date total is down 2%.
