HARTFORD, Conn. — CTrail and Amtrak service on the Hartford Line will see schedule changes as of Monday, Dec. 12, with completion of second-stage work on the line’s rail replacement project, the Connecticut Department of Transportation has announced.
Work in Meriden, and between Berlin and Hartford, had led to schedule adjustments of up to 35 minutes. With that work complete, those adjustments are being removed and trains are returning to their regular schedules. Those schedules are available here.
Amtrak’s rail replacement project on the line is being carried out in three stages. The third stage will begin in 2023.
Is this rail replacement rail that was the original and not any of that used for the addition of 2 main track? What was the history of the rail being replaced? Weight of rail and what differences in weight for various sections, new tie plates to support rail, approximate age of various rails, how many gross tons on replaced rail, original welded rail or reclaimed rail that was welded, etc?
35 minute scheduule adjustments seems to indicate more tha one section between CPs changed out same time. That would of course depend of length of sections, Anyone know? How many sections at one time?
Looking over the old New Haven Railroad schedules the other day – the current schedule now is considerably faster south of Hartford (as it should be with a 110 mph top speed). And in those days the New Haven skipped many of the stops but still ran slower.
