CHICAGO — Norm Carlson, a former chairman of the Metra board of director who had served on the commuter rail agency’s board since April 2013, retired from the board at its meeting today (Wednesday, Dec. 14).
Carlson was the longest-serving member of the current board. In addition to his term as chairman, he served two terms as vice-chair and was chair of the audit committee. He came to Metra following his retirement from accounting firm Arthur Andersen Co., where he was appointed North American Rail Industry Head in 1985 and Worldwide Managing Partner of the Transportation Practice in 1990. His interest in rail history includes serving as president of the Shore Line Interurban Historical Society and managing editor of its publication, “First & Fastest” magazine.
The board’s meeting included passage of a resolution honoring Carlson for “his service to Metra and extend[ing] to him and his wife Mary, its great appreciation, profound respect, and best wishes for their future.”
