CDP logoCanadian National and Canadian Pacific have both received places on the “A List” of global environmental non-profit CDP for corporate transparency and performance on climate change. Both were among a small number of companies receiving that score among almost 15,000 companies scored.

CSX Transportation and Union Pacific, meanwhile, have been included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index North America.

“We are proud to have secured a place on CDP’s A List for the seventh time as well as being recognized for the thirteenth time,” CN CEO Tracy Robinson said in a press release. “Achieving the A List on what is widely recognized as the gold standard of corporate environmental transparency is a testament to CN’s commitment to minimizing our impact on the environment and providing cleaner, more sustainable transportation services to our customers.”

CP said it was named to the A list for the second consecutive year.

“Being named to the A List once again is a significant accomplishment that reflects our commitment to comprehensive environmental disclosure,” CP CEO Keith Creel said in a press release. “We are proud to be recognized by CDP as a leader in corporate sustainability. We continue to build on the foundation we set in 2021 with the establishment of our climate strategy and GHG emissions reduction targets.”

The full CDP A list, along with other publicly available company scores, is available at the CDP website.

CSX, UP on Dow Jones Sustainability Index

CSX was named to the Dow Jones Index North America for the 12th consecutive year, which the company said reflects its commitment to environmental, social, and governance leadership.

“CSX is proud to once again be named to the DJSI and to be recognized for our ESG performance. As a growing number of our customers focus on reducing their carbon footprint, CSX is committed to helping them achieve their goals through the environmental advantages of rail,” CSX CEO Joe Hinrichs said in a press release. “Moving freight by rail is three to four times more fuel-efficient than trucking, which enables our customers to achieve their sustainability goals by leveraging CSX’s rail-based supply chain solutions.”

Union Pacific was named to the Dow Jones index for the first time.

“Union Pacific is proud to be recognized as part of the prestigious DJSI list as a result of our environmental and sustainability efforts,” Beth Whited, UP executive vice president-sustainability and strategy, and chief human resource officer, said in a press release. “Railroads are the most environmentally responsible way to transport ground freight, and we are committed to further reducing our carbon footprint, working hand in hand with our customers and communities to ensure a shared sustainable future.”

The Dow Jones Index includes companies that achieve high scores on S&P Global’s Corporate Sustainability Assessment, a questionnaire assessing both public and non-public data submitted by participating companies. This year, more than 10,000 publicly traded companies were invited to participate.
