KEACHI, La. — Residents evacuated because of a Union Pacific derailment Friday night were allowed to return home Sunday evening, KSLA-TV reports, after leaks in two tank cars were contained.
A total of 16 cars derailed Friday night in Keachi, about 30 miles southwest of Shreveport, La. Leaks from two of those cars, involving acetic anhydride and propinoic acid, led to the evacuation of about 130 people in a 1.5-mile radius [see “UP derailment in Louisiana …,” Trains News Wire, Jan. 28, 2023].
DeSoto Parish Sheriff Jayson Richardson said Sunday evening that “everyone that wished to go home has been allowed back home,” but that Depot Road near the accident scene remain closed to “unnecessary traffic.”
So how meany big derailments this year? Is there any place that keeps track?
