KEARNY, N.J. — Repair work at the Portal Bridge has been completed, NJ Transit reports in an update on its website, ending signal issues that disrupted operations for Amtrak and the commuter agency since Thursday.
The NJ Transit update says its trains are operating at or near normal schedules today (Saturday, May 13). Regular operations are planned for Sunday, with normal weekday operations resuming Monday.
Amtrak has no update on the bridge situation on its website or the Amtrak NEC Alerts Twitter feed, but an earlier advisory has been removed from the website.
Amtrak previously said a contractor working in the area of the bridge, crossing the Hackensack River between Kearny and Secaucus, N.J., “caused an electrical issue affecting critical systems on the bridge” [see “Problems at Portal Bridge …,” Trains News Wire, May 12, 2023].
