JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Gulf & Atlantic Railways has completed its acquisition of three railroads in Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois, expanding the company to five railroads.
The company announced today (May 16) that it closed on May 12 on the acquisition of the Camp Chase Railroad; Chesapeake & Indiana Railroad; and Vermilion Valley Railroad. It had announced the purchase in March [see “Gulf & Atlantic buys three Midwestern short lines,” Trains News Wire, March 27, 2023].
Gulf & Atlantic CEO Ryan Ratledge said in a press release, “We look forward to working with the customers of these railroads and the local communities to provide safe, customer-focused transportation solutions and identifying opportunities for investment in infrastructure and growth. … The new railroads are complementary to our existing business, and we are excited about opportunities for providing customers with enhanced service options.”
Gulf & Atlantic also operates the 430-mile Florida, Gulf & Atlantic in Florida and Georgia, and the 228-mile Grenada Railway between Canton, Miss., and Memphis, Tenn.
