SCRANTON, Pa. — Genesee Valley Transportation and the Delaware-Lackawanna Railroad plan to provide a public viewing area for the arrival of Alco PA Nickel Plate 190, scheduled for today (Friday, May 19).
GTV posted Thursday on its Facebook Page that the locomotive is expected to arrive about 5:30 p.m. and the viewing area will be on the north side of its tracks just south of Scranton’s bus station (the Lackawanna Transit Center, 30 Lackawanna Ave.). The best available parking is at the garage for the Marketplace at Steamtown, 300 Lackawanna Avenue.
The railroad requests that spectators be respectful of railroad property before, during, and after the event.
GVT announced earlier this week that, following its arrival, the locomotive will be placed on temporary display at the Steamtown National Historic Site until work begins to restore it to operating condition [see “Alco PA to be publicly displayed at Steamtown,” Trains News Wire, May 16, 2023].
