FAR ROCKAWAY, N.Y. — Long Island Rail Road service has been restored this morning on the Far Rockaway Branch after a derailment during Wednesday evening’s rush hour.

WABC-TV reports the lead car of an eastbound train derailed while entering the Far Rockaway station about 6:30 p.m. Some 50 passengers were on board, but no injuries were reported.

Service was suspended south of Valley Stream while the derailment was addressed. The MTA website reports trains are operating on or near scheduled times on the line this morning.

  1. A real narrow escape! Let’s hope that such derailments do not happen again on the LIRR network! Congratulations also to the MTA teams for their fast and efficient repair job!
