EL PASO, Texas — Approximately 13 cars of grain derailed on a Union Pacific train in central El Paso this afternoon, closing an exit of Interstate 10, KFOX-TV reports.
Three of the cars overturned, spilling a load reported to be soybean meal.
No injuries are reported and no hazardous materials are involved, El Paso Fire Department officials told KVIA-TV.
The fire department reported it was responding to the incident shortly after 2 p.m. and released the scene to Union Pacific for investigation and cleanup by 3:35 p.m. The Cotton Street exit of I-10 will remain closed until further notice.
A fire broke out in a train car that was not involved in the derailment. El Paso Fire crews have put that fire out.

Lots of stories about derailments, but almost no follow-up on why. Track problems? Wheels or bearings? Sabotage? Severe run of slack in or out that jolts a wheelset off? Inquiring minds would like to know.
There is no doubt that this is unexpected for UP. More power and best of good luck to the company crews on the scene!
