ATLANTA — The Brotherhood of Railway Signalmen and Norfolk Southern will create a new program, the Signal Safety Collaboration — including joint inspections, information sharing, and training — to address signal safety, the two parties announced last week.
The one-year pilot program was developed with input from the Federal Railroad Administration.
A joint letter to union members from Brotherhood of Railway Signalman President Michael Baldwin and Ed Boyle, NS vice president of engineering, said the first phase of the program will include “field visits, team-building seesions, and working meetings to gather input from front-line supervisors and craft employees.” The union and railroad say they have committed to work together to implement findings from the program, and to advocate for regulatory changes that can enhance safety. The full letter is available here.
A meaningful and exemplary collaboration.
