JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – CSX’s eighth heritage locomotive is a salute to the New York Central.
The ES44AH, which carries No. 1853 for the Central’s founding year, made its debut today. It took the Waycross, Ga., paint shop crew 22 days to adorn the locomotive with the Central’s classic lightning stripe scheme.
The New York Central locomotive joins units honoring the history of CSX predecessors Baltimore & Ohio, Chessie System, Seaboard System, Conrail, Chesapeake & Ohio, and Louisville & Nashville, and Atlantic Coast Line.
CSX also released a video that explains the painting process.
I think it looks great. I can’t wait for Scale Trains to do a version in HO scale.
Thanks CSX for painting heritage locomotives, but I must agree with those who say the entire locomotive should be done in the heritage scheme. As long as your reporting marks are visible, why not?
Maybe just a yellow nose with CSX on it and yellow lettering on the cab side would look better? Just leave the blue out.
Looks nice but they got the font wrong on the lettering. If you are going to do it, do it right.
Pretty neat!
Looks GREAT to me!
22 days? Maybe they should bring in a few graffiti artists as consultants on speeding up the process! Seriously, it looks sharp but I have to agree with Mr. Shoemaker that they should paint the entire unit in the NYC scheme.
did anyone notice that there’s no fade between the csx and nyc paint scheme?
They stopped doing the fade since the ACL one onwards. Reason is unknown.
If you parked this one next to the NS NYC unit and asked random citizens to vote their favorite, 90% would pick the NS unit.
Since the early NYC Jeeps ran long hood forward, this looks right
I think the CSX paint shop crew did and excellent job on this locomotive. Well done.
UGH
They need to paint the whole locomotive.
These CSX heritage units leave me cold. Would be much better with the entire heritage scheme rather than the haphazard job with the CSX front end that looks like an unfinished billboard.
It’s unfortunate they don’t put the heritage scheme on the entire locomotive.
Awesome job CSX, always liked the NYC lightning stripe.
OK CSX it looks great but when will you create a Seaboard AIR LINE heritage locomotive??!!??
They already did the Seaboard System so I don’t think that they’ll do the actual air line.
Looks great
I like it! No doubt to costs time and materials expended. Thanks CSX!
