LA BROQUERIE, Manitoba — Twenty-seven cars of a Canadian Nation train derailed Thursday, Jan. 11, in rural Manitoba, CTV News reports.
The derailment occurred about 7:15 p.m. No injuries were reported; CN told the network that there were no leaks or fires and the derailment posed no risk to the public. Cause of the incident is under investigation.
Ivan Normandeau, reeve (or mayor) of La Broquerie, told CTV that the majority of the railcars involved were empty, save for a few carrying fertilizer or lumber.
The website Steinbach Online reports the Transportation Safety Board of Canada is investigating the incident. The TSB has not posted a deployment notice on its website or social media sites.
La Broquerie is approximately 40 miles southeast of Winnipeg on CN’s Sprague Subdivision.
