UTICA, N.Y. – The Adirondack Railroad has come up with a unique way to view the total solar eclipse this spring. The railroad announced it will operate a train from Utica to a special viewing area on the total eclipse path near Old Forge, N.Y on April 8. The railroad is touting the ride as an alternative to expected crowded road conditions on nearby Route 28. The train will include coach, First Class, and Diamond Class seating – the latter includes a dome car.
All ticket holders will receive a free pair of Eclipse viewing glasses, and eclipse information will be available onboard and at the viewing site. The train will depart Utica at 11:15 a.m. and return at 4:15 p.m.
The Lower 48 states will get a partial view of the eclipse on April 8, but the total eclipse will be visible only on a path from Texas northeast toward Ohio, New York and into Maine — if the skies are clear.
