LONDON, Ontario — An Ontario man arrested for tampering with railroad tracks is not allowed to use tools as a condition of his bail, the London Free Press reports.
Wael El-Ghadban, 35, of London, Ont., was arrested Feb. 1 and charged with mischief endangering human life after acts of tampering at several locations in Middlesex County, which includes London, and Oxford County, which is adjacent to the east. He is accused of damaging “railway shunting of CN Railways at Middlesex Centre, Zorra Township, and London by connecting wires between rails of a train track,” according to court documents. Such a move can interfere with the operation of signals, including crossing gates.
The arrest followed an investigation involving the Ontario Provincial Police, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and London police. The railroad said it is cooperating fully with the investigation but declined further comment, a representative told the newspaper.
El-Ghadban was released Wednesday after six days in custody under a bond in which he and his surety both pledged $2,500; while on bail, El-Ghabad must live with his surety, stay away from CN property and not possess tools or wires, except at work, according to the court documents.
