MacDonald named vice president, chief operating officer at Sierra Northern

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Brenton A. MacDonald has been named vice president and chief operating officer at Sierra Northern Railway, the company announced Tuesday.

MacDonald, who joined the company in 2013, most recently had served as general manager. He has also been manager of safety and training and well as a conductor and engineer. He previously was manager of locomotive maintenance for Union Pacific in Hinkle, ore.

MacDonald will work with the railroad’s customers, pursue new business development and contract negotiations, and work with senior leadership at interchange partners Union Pacific and BNSF Railway. He will also oversee operations for the railroad’s West Sacramento, Oakdale, and Ventura divisions, while aiding in maintenance and construction activities. He will report directly to CEO Kennan H. Beard III.
