In our January 2010 issue, Fred W. Frailey explores Pan Am Railways’ history and its history-making partnership with Norfolk Southern Railway: Pan Am Southern, which provides Pan Am a lot of money for upgrades, and gives Norfolk Southern a way into Boston.

Pan Am Railways’ history is rooted in the Springfield Terminal, Boston & Maine, and Maine Central. As such, its locomotives range from a GP7 built in 1950 to GP40-2s built in 1977, plus a handful of six-axle units. Click the PDF to see the full roster.
