DAVENPORT, Okla. — Twenty-two cars of a 90-car Stillwater Central Railroad train derailed Saturday afternoon near the town of Davenport, KOCO-TV reports.
The derailment was reported shortly after 3 p.m. No injuries were reported, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, and no hazardous materials were involved; the train was transporting rock. Some fuel was spilled from one of the locomotives, and power lines were damaged, affecting local residents.
The Stillwater Central, operated by Watco since 1998, operates approximately 275 route-miles. Davenport, population 809 as of the 2020 census, is roughly midway between Oklahoma City and Tulsa.
Interesting. A local shortline with a 90 car train. With derailments just like the big boys. Wonder what size rail they have and how old it is.
Stillwater Central has a small ROW maintenance garage on its own siding in Davenport. Once the cars get lifted, it won’t take long to get the track fixed.
