FORT EUSTIS, Va. – On July 25, the U.S. Army Transportation Corps Museum will dedicate restored Alco RSD1 No. 8011, and the museum’s new Rail Pavilion. The Alco is one of 57 units sent to Iran during World War II for the Military Railway Service Corps operated Iranian State Railway.

This event will be dedicated to all Military Railway Service Corps veterans. It will begin at 4 p.m. and be hosted by Brigadier General Stephen Farman, the Army chief of transportation, as part of the annual Transportation Corps Conference. All events on July 25 are open to the public. In addition to veterans, the invitation list includes individual rail industry carriers who sponsored and helped train Military Railway Service Corps units, rail and labor organizations critical to the formation of the service, and rail suppliers who provided the materials required to support operations.

The museum is just inside the Fort Eustis Boulevard Gate (I-64, Exit 250) and will open at 9 a.m. on July 25. Following the dedication, all are invited to attend a barbecue picnic and social on the museum grounds, which begins at 5 p.m. Tickets can be purchased on site for $20. Self-guided tours of the museum will be available throughout the day.
