GRAND FORKS, N.D. – A passenger on Amtrak’s Empire Builder was arrested April 3 for carrying $44,000 worth of high-quality marijuana while the train was stopped in Grand Forks, the Grand Forks Herald reports.

According to Grand Forks County Sheriff Bob Rost, the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol informed his office that agents had information about a suspicious passenger who had boarded the train in Portland, Ore.

Sheriff’s deputies used a dog to search the eastbound train during its stop at Grand Forks and identified two pieces of suspicious luggage. The suspect, Andrew Sorenson, 22, of Portland consented to a search and deputies found 7.5 pounds of marijuana, according to Rost. Sorenson was arrested and removed from the train.
