The Atlas O Spring 2024 Premier catalog was recently published on the manufacturer’s website.
Highlights include three locomotives, assorted 60-foot heavyweight passenger cars, four freight cars, a snow plow, pedestrian walkways, and an upgraded 24”-diameter turntable. All of the models are scheduled for release in the fourth quarter of 2024.
Steam and diesel locomotives
The 2-8-0 is a new addition to the Atlas O product lineup. Paint schemes include Boston & Maine, Chicago & North Western, New York Central, Southern Ry., Union Pacific, and Western Maryland. Each road name is offered in two road numbers.
The Consolidation, priced at $799.95, features a die-cast metal boiler and chassis, an ABS tender body, an all-new printed-circuit board drawbar connection between the locomotive and tender, and light-emitting-diode (LED) lighting. The model features Proto-Sound 3.0 with passenger station Proto-Effects and a synchronized puffing ProtoSmoke system.
The GE P42 is back in new paint schemes, including Amtrak (phase 7 in two road numbers), Metro North (Conrail heritage, MTA FL9 commemorative, and New York Central heritage schemes in one number each), and NJ Transit (silver, orange, blue, and black in two numbers). The 1:48-proportion plastic and die-cast metal model includes Proto-Sound 3.0, ProtoSmoke diesel exhaust, two painted crew figures, and a detachable snow plow. The model is priced between $639.95 and $699.95.
The GP15-1 returns to the Trainman series in new paint schemes and road numbers. New schemes (with front and rear ditch lights) include CSX (YN2), GATX Locomotive Group (blue and white), Norfolk Southern (Thoroughbred scheme), Union Pacific (Armour Yellow and Harbor Mist Gray with “baby wings”), and York Rail (Genesee & Wyoming orange and black). New road numbers (without ditch lights) are available on diesels painted for Conrail (blue and white) and Missouri Pacific (Jenks Blue).
Features on the four-axle locomotive include Proto-Sound 3.0 with Freight Yard Proto-Effects, an operating smoke unit (in DCS models), and factory-applied wire grab irons. The GP15-1 is priced at $479.95. Add $20 to units with ditch lights.
Passenger cars
Several 60-foot heavyweight passenger cars were announced in the Atlas O Spring 2024 Premier catalog. Road names on the Trainman series baggage car, coach, combine, and Railway Post Office are Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe (green, black, and gold); Boston & Maine (maroon and black); Chicago & North Western (green, black, and gold); and New York Central (green and black). Additional paint schemes include Conway Scenic RR (red, orange, and silver coach) and Western Maryland (green, black, and gold baggage car, coach, and combine). The observation car is decorated for AT&SF, C&NW, and WM.
The passenger cars, priced between $114.95 and $119.95, are based on C&NW prototypes. The models have LED interior lighting; factory-applied diaphragms and grab irons; and sprung, die-cast metal trucks. The minimum diameter curve for the passenger cars is 0-36.
Premier rolling stock
Two Premier line models are being offered in new paint schemes. The Northeast caboose is decorated for Boston & Maine (red and black), Chicago & North Western (red and yellow), New York Central (brown, black, and white), Southern Ry. (Savannah & Atlanta, white and black), Union Pacific (red and white), and Western Maryland (red, white, and black). The 1:48-proportion model has a detailed, illuminated interior; die-cast metal trucks; factory-applied grab irons; and Kadee-compatible coupler mounting pads. The caboose has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $89.95.
The Russell-style snow plow is also being offered in new paint schemes, including Boston & Maine (blue and white), Canadian Pacific (black and red), Chessie System (Chesapeake & Ohio reporting marks, yellow and blue), Chicago & North Western (yellow and black), PanAm Railways (black, blue, and white), Pennsylvania RR (yellow and black), and Rock Island (blue, black, and white). Each road name is offered in two road numbers. Features on the snow plow, priced at $89.95, include factory-applied handrails, die-cast metal trucks, and a stamped metal floors. The model will operate on 0-31 curves.
Master Line and Trainman rolling stock
The popular 40-foot wood refrigerator car is making its return to the Atlas Master Line in seven new paint schemes. Offerings in this release include Borden’s Produce Co. (white, brown, and red), Carnation Flaked Wheat (yellow, brown, red, and white), Diercks & Sons Potatoes (yellow, black, and brown), Omaha Cold Storage (yellow and brown), Pacific Cooperative Poultry (yellow and brown), Puritan Malt (yellow, black, and brown), and South Iowa Cooperative Creameries (orange, red, brown, and black). The reefer, which retails for $92.95, is offered in two numbers per scheme. Product features include an ABS body; separate, factory-applied ladders, grab irons, stirrup steps, and uncoupling levers; and positionable doors. The minimum diameter curve for the 40-foot car is 0-31.
New paint schemes and road numbers are being offered on the Trainman series 52’-6” war emergency gondola. Paint schemes include Lehigh Valley (Freight Car Red and white); Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific (Freight Car Red and white); Reading Co. (black and white); and New York Central (Freight Car Red and white). New numbers are offered on cars lettered for Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe (Mineral Brown and white) and Pennsylvania RR (PRR Freight Car Red and white). Details include an Ajax brake system; a separate, factory-applied brake system; and positionable drop ends. The minimum diameter curve for the 70-ton car is O-42. The gondola is available in four numbers per scheme and has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $59.95.
Wrapping up the freight car listings is an American Car & Foundry 40-foot boxcar with 8-foot sliding doors, priced at $69.95. New paint schemes include Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe (red, black, and white); Clinchfield (black, white, and yellow); Elgin, Joliet & Eastern (orange and green); Northampton & Bath (Boxcar Red and white); and Maine Central (red, black, and white). New road numbers are available models decorated for Baltimore & Ohio (Sentinel Service). Each scheme is offered in two numbers. Among the product highlights are factory-applied running boards, ladders, brake wheel, and brake lines; see-through running boards; and sprung, die-cast metal couplers. The minimum diameter curve for the boxcar is O-31.
Layout accessories
Single- and double-track pedestrian crosswalks and an upgraded turntable were among the layout accessories listed in the Atlas O Spring 2024 Premier catalog. The crosswalks are offered in black, green, red, and silver. The clearance height from the top of the center rail to the bottom of the walkway span is 8-7/8”. The single-track pedestrian crosswalk ($76.95) has a footprint of 11-5/8” x 13-3/8” x 7-7/8”. The double-track version ($87.95) measures 6-1/8” x 13-3/8” x 7-7/8”. Tracks should be 4-1/2” (center rail to center rail) to fit under the double-track crosswalk.
The upgraded 24”-diameter turntable features a larger, more powerful motor; flat cogged anti-slip belt; deck support with more roller bearings for greater support of heavier locomotives; and redesigned metal contacts to power the rotating track. The turntable can be run on AC or DC power and is compatible with Digital Command Control, Train Master Command Control, and Digital Command System.
