Union Pacific SD70Ace No. 4141 is now on display in its permanent home at the George H.W. Bush Presidential Center in College Station, Texas. Bush Presidential Center

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The George H.W. Bush Presidential Center officially opened the new pavilion that houses Union Pacific SD70Ace No. 4141 on Thursday, which would have been the president’s 100th birthday.

The 29,000-square-foot pavilion on the Texas A&M campus also includes a helicopter that was frequently used as Marine One to carry the president while he was in office.

UP No. 4141, named in honor of the 41st president, was custom painted to reflect the colors and elements of the Air Force One used during Bush’s presidency. It marked only the sixth time Union Pacific painted a locomotive in colors other than its traditional Armour Yellow paint.

The locomotive pulled the president’s funeral train in December 2018, carrying the former president 70 miles during his final journey from Spring to College Station, Texas.

Union Pacific released a video in honor of the president’s 100th birthday.

  1. Definitely a beautiful locomotive. Glad it will be preserved indoors for future generations.

  2. If I remember right, UP retired the locomotive after the Presidential trip. Looks great, good job UP.

    1. Permanent. It was predetermined years before His death that the locomotive would handle his funeral train and then promptly be retired so it could be on display at the Presidental Center.

    2. I only hoped they drained all the fluids out so they don’t leak all over that nice clean floor… lol
