CPKC logoGULL LAKE, Sask. — At least 15 cars of a CPKC freight train derailed Sunday evening about a mile east of the town of Gull Lake on Sunday evening.

The Regina Leader-Post reports there were no injuries and no hazardous materials involved, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, which reported the incident about 7:40 p.m. The newspaper quotes an eyewitness who was waiting for the train at a grade crossing as saying occurred shortly after a midtrain locomotive passed, and involved carloads of potash.

The derailment blocked access into and out of Gull Lake from the Trans-Canada Highway on Provincial Highway 37, which was expected to remain blocked for several hours.

Gull Lake is about 35 rail miles west of Swift Current, Sask., on CPKC’s Maple Creek Subdivision, and a straight-line distance of about 175 miles from Regina.
