GLIDDEN, Iowa — An estimated 36 cars of a Union Pacific intermodal train derailed Monday evening about a mile east of Glidden, Carroll Broadcasting reports on its website.

No injuries were reported, and no hazardous materials were involved, a Union Pacific spokesman told the radio stations. The derailment occurred about 5 p.m., blocking both grade crossings in the community. By 9:30 p.m. the city of Glidden was reporting on Facebook that the crossings had been reopened, but that local facilities including a dog park would be closed indefinitely to provide staging areas for trucks removing the shipping containers from the accident scene.

Glidden, population 1,151, is approximately 63 miles west of Ames, Iowa, on UP’s Boone Subdivision.
