JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The 18th heritage locomotive in the CSX fleet is No. 1900, a tribute to predecessor Seaboard Air Line.
CEO Joe Hinrichs unveiled the locomotive today in a post on LinkedIn.
“This railroad played a significant role in what is now CSX (Chessie Seaboard X) — especially our strength across the Southeastern United States,” Hinrichs wrote. “Another great job by our ONE CSX team in Waycross, Ga. Love the logo on the backside … ‘Through The Heart of the South.’”
The locomotive wears SAL’s so-called citrus passenger livery.
The 1900 joins others in the railroad’s growing heritage fleet, which includes locomotives honoring the Chicago & Eastern Illinois Railroad; Georgia Railroad; Pittsburgh & Lake Erie; Family Lines; Pere Marquette; Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac; Baltimore & Ohio; Chessie System; Seaboard System; Conrail; Chesapeake & Ohio; Louisville & Nashville; Atlantic Coast Line; New York Central; Monon; Western Maryland; and Seaboard Coast Line.
All of the units have been painted at CSX’s shop in Waycross, Ga.
Not quite as classy as the original Seaboard passenger locomotives’ paint-scheme, but nonetheless a nice “heritage” tribute to the Seaboard Airline Railroad.
Remind me type of GE ‘Techno-Toaster’ this locomotive is? AC-4400 (or C-44)-something?

@Liam McGrath: I’ve seen vomit, this is nothing like vomit…
Looks like vomit. Would rather they’d’ve done nothing.
Would love to see Seaboard’s 1960’s scheme honored…
Clinchfield has to be coming soon, right?!?!
Well, this is number 18. Since NS painted 20 heritage schemes, wouldn’t be surprised if CSX created at least 21. But they are a railfan’s delight.
Another GREAT looking heritage unit. Thanks CSX!!
I truly love the way CSX is painting these locomotives. We all be thankful as railfans and former railroaders (me).
Fantastic!!!! Thanks CSX, now to see it coming through fairfax, SC will be great!!!
Wow! I hope to see this one in the wild someday.
